Glossary of Christianity http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/glossary.htm

Jerusalem: Hittites and the Amorite were the co-founders of "Jerusalem"---however, this does not mean the Jerusalem in Palestine. In fact, there was dispute among the people supposedly composing the "Israelites" before and after they divided, about where this Sacred City (Uru-salim) was located.
Jerusalem is a twisted form of Jai Shaila Meru, meaning the victorious mount Meru. Another explanation I have come across for that is Yadu-shailam meaning mount of the Yadus. It appears even today the Israelis themselves pronounce it as Yeru-Shalyom
